On a past to Spain, Paolo Benedetti and his family took a side-trip to Portugal and happened on some Roman ruins that opened his eyes to a whole new set of possibilities. Here he describes his encounters with the technologies used to heat an ancient residential indoor swimming pool as well as a collections of pools that made up the public-bath system for a seaside outpost of the Roman Empire.

Pool and Spa started out as a small, family-owned service company working on estate pools of wealthy Silicon Valley executives. But they tires of repairing the work of mass production pool builders and started remodeling the pools as they aged, bringing them up to the standards of the rest of the estate. Eventually, this led to projects designing new pools as clientele moved into larger and fancier houses.
